Unions, Liberals Fear Obama Will Betray Them

From The Hill:

Labor unions, liberal groups fear lame-duck betrayal by Obama

By Alexander Bolton | Wed October 24, 2012

Major labor unions and dozens of liberal groups working to elect President Obama are worried he could “betray” them in the lame-duck session by agreeing to a deal to cut safety-net programs.

While Obama is relying on labor unions and other organizations on the left to turn out Democratic voters in battleground states, some of his allies have lingering concerns about whether he will stand by them if elected.

Oh, our sides.

The liberal groups are planning to launch an aggressive campaign immediately after Election Day to pressure Obama and Senate Democrats not to endorse any deal that cuts Medicare and/or Social Security benefits.

[The campaign coalition] is expected to include the AFL-CIO, the Service Employees International Union, Campaign for America’s Future, members of the Strengthen Social Security coalition and dozens of other groups, according to sources familiar with the effort.

“You can have virtually all of the senior groups, you can have the unions, you can have some of the veteran groups as well coming on board,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), founder of the Senate’s Defend Social Security Caucus, who has been in contact with organizers…

“So I think you’re going to have a whole lot of people beginning to stand together and say, ‘Sorry, at a time when the wealthiest are doing phenomenally well and so many people are hurting terribly because of this recession, you’re not going to balance the budget on the backs of the elderly, the children, the sick, the poor, the disabled veterans,’” he said…

And never mind what the voters just said in the elections.

The AFL-CIO has planned a series of coordinated events around the country on Nov. 8, two days after Election Day, to pressure lawmakers not to sign onto any deficit-reduction deal that cuts Medicare and Social Security benefits by raising the Medicare eligibility age or changing the formula used for Social Security cost-of-living adjustments…

“There’s going to be a major effort by lots of groups to make sure the people we vote for don’t sell us down the river,” said Roger Hickey, co-director of the Campaign for America’s Future.

“People, groups, organizations and networks are working very hard to get Obama and the Democrats elected, and yet we are worried that it is possible that we could be betrayed almost immediately,” he said…

Oh, yeah. That’s what everyone is afraid of.

After Election Day, the liberal-leaning Institute for America’s Future will release a letter signed by 350 economists warning that austerity measures could derail the economic recovery…

Yes, the economy could be wrecked if the government doesn’t scoop up 25% of the GDP.

But all of this is nothing more than an obvious attempt at ‘reverse psychology.’ In fact, it’s such naked propaganda it should probably have a XXX rating.

Are we really supposed to believe that Obama will be more conservative in his second term? Every indication is that he will be even more radical. (Just ask Medvedev.)

Besides, we had this report just a month ago from the Washington Free Beacon:

DNC Literally in Hock to SEIU

DNC owes millions to union-owned bank, records show

By Andrew Stiles | September 21, 2012

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) owes at least $8 million to a bank owned by one of the largest unions in the country, according to the committee’s most recent financial report.

The DNC initiated an $8 million loan with the Amalgamated Bank of New York on Aug. 10, the report shows, accounting for the majority of the committee’s overall debt of $11 million.

Amalgamated Bank, often described as “America’s Labor Bank,” is a national entity, the majority of which is owned by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a politically active union with deep ties to the Democratic Party. The SEIU is also involved with the Democracy Alliance, a shadowy group of wealthy left-wing donors founded by billionaire investor George Soros.

The bank announced in an August press release that the DNC had “moved its primary banking relationship” to Amalgamated Bank, which would handle the committee’s “day-to-day banking needs.”

The DNC had previously done most of its banking with Bank of America, which helped finance the Democratic convention in Charlotte.

DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz hailed the transition to Amalgamated Bank, and noted the longstanding political and financial ties between the two organizations.

The committee, she said, had a “fiduciary responsibility to those who invest in our party.” …

And, as the old saying goes, ‘he who pays the piper calls the tune.’

Unions fear everything. They are the neurotics of the world of employment.

The one thing they don’t fear is their hand in my wallet.

You think shoplifting jacks up the price on goods in America?

Nothing jacks up prices like Union contracts in every pie from manufacturing to distribution to transportation … everything in America costs more because of Unions.

  2. A union guy came to our home to do a VERY minor repair on a pipe. He did it when we weren’t even home. It cost us $275, for 15 minutes of work. We had the tools to do it ourselves, we thought it was something else causing the problem.

We told him to get out and never come back, and he reduced the bill by $50. The implement store had the same item for $7. –wow, thanks union labor!

When democrats are talking about greed, they are really talking about themselves.

      Remember Eastern Airlines?

Remember when Union Flight Mechanics sabotaged an Eastern DC-10 out of Miami – Flight 855 – had all three engines die at the same time? Union mechanics were embroiled in what they termed a bitter dispute over a new contract with Eastern and lo … one of their planes fell out of the sky with 172 souls on board. Pilot got one engine started and saved everyone.

      Unions.

Skilled in violence, thuggery, murder, intimidation, kidnapping and every other evil that can be aimed at us for Not Obeying Them.

I thought the recession was over? Someone better tell comrade Sanders, he’s deviating from the party line.
