By 21-Point Margin, Americans Oppose Birth Control Mandate

Mar 12, 2012

The latest New York Times/CBS poll shows President Obama’s approval rating hitting an all-time low. One month ago, 50% of Americans approved of his job performance and 43% disapproved. The new NYT/CBS poll shows Obama’s approval rating dropping to 41% and his disapproval rating climbing to 47%.

The new poll also shows Americans strongly support an exemption to the "birth control mandate" by 57% to 36% for religiously-affiliated employers. By a 51% to 40% margin, Americans support a religious/moral exemption for all employers. (See above.)

There’s a lot of talk that Obama’s dive in in the CBS/NYT and the ABC/Washington Post polls is due to high gas prices. That seems plausible. But why couldn’t the contraception/abortifacient mandate–the biggest news story for the past month–also play a part in Obama’s sinking numbers?

As we previously noted, The Times did their best to downplay this part of their poll. They stuck it as the very bottom of their article, and described it as vaguely as possible:

In recent weeks, there has been much debate over the government’s role in guaranteeing insurance coverage for contraception, including for those who work for religious organizations. The poll found that women were split as to whether health insurance plans should cover the costs of birth control and whether employers with religious objections should be able to opt out.

Now we can see that this "split" was actually amazingly lopsided, by 57% to 36%.

But, clearly, the New York Times did not believe this information was ‘fit to print.’

I continue to be disappointed that the GOP allows the Dems to equate health insurance with health care. Health insurance is a barrier to delivering health care and this little fiasco should highlight that. Get rid of the current system and start delivering health care via the free market. Prices will go down, availability will go up. Of course government control and the ability to buy votes will also decrease, so it has to be done without the communists Democrats.

Ruh roh, that would indicate the contraception mandate ‘compromise’ isn’t passing muster either. Barbaric.
