US Won’t Back UN On Homosexuals – Yet

From an embarrassed Associated Press:

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual associations rally for the global decriminalization of homosexual relationships, in Seville December 15, 2008. The banner reads, "The Vatican kills us, Global decriminalization of homosexuality".

US balks at backing condemnation of anti-gay laws

By DAVID CRARY, AP National Writer

UNITED NATIONS – Alone among major Western nations, the United States has refused to sign a declaration presented Thursday at the United Nations calling for worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.

In all, 66 of the U.N.’s 192 member countries signed the nonbinding declaration — which backers called a historic step to push the General Assembly to deal more forthrightly with any-gay discrimination. More than 70 U.N. members outlaw homosexuality, and in several of them homosexual acts can be punished by execution.

Co-sponsored by France and the Netherlands, the declaration was signed by all 27 European Union members, as well as Japan, Australia, Mexico and three dozen other countries. There was broad opposition from Muslim nations, and the United States refused to sign, indicating that some parts of the declaration raised legal questions that needed further review…

According to some of the declaration’s backers, U.S. officials expressed concern in private talks that some parts of the declaration might be problematic in committing the federal government on matters that fall under state jurisdiction. In numerous states, landlords and private employers are allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation; on the federal level, gays are not allowed to serve openly in the military

Gay rights activists nonetheless were angered by the U.S. position.

"It’s an appalling stance — to not join with other countries that are standing up and calling for decriminalization of homosexuality," said Paula Ettelbrick, executive director of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission.

She expressed hope that the U.S. position might change after President-elect Barack Obama takes office in January

More than 50 countries opposed to the declaration, including members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, issued a joint statement Thursday criticizing the initiative as an unwarranted attempt to give special prominence to gays and lesbians. The statement suggested that protecting sexual orientation could lead to "the social normalization and possibly the legalization of deplorable acts" such as pedophilia and incest.

The declaration also has been opposed by the Vatican, a stance which prompted a protest in Rome earlier this month.

A Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said the Roman Catholic Church opposed the death penalty and other harsh repression of gays and lesbians, but he expressed concern that the declaration would be used as pressure against those who believe marriage rights should not be extended to gays…

They are relentless.

If ya’ll are SOOOOO appalled by the United States, there are 66 other nations that voted for it…….move your vile ways there!! (France….I should have known)

  2. Odie44 says:

Yet Obama is both against gay marriages and has invited the “anti-gay” pastor to be a key note speaker in his innaguration.

Liberals really are as dumb as I suspected… I can’t wait until they start eating their own, after the glaring realization comes through – they have been had and lied to by “The One”…

    • proreason says:

Obamy has positions on every side of every issue. Depending on what group he is talking to, he whips out the appropriate position.

This is predicated on the total ignorance of his voting base. And that is predicated on the abject incompetance of the school system.

Ergo, he appoints the incompetant Chicago school system supervisor to head the U.S. Dept of Education. Thus, his regime is perpetuated.

To say the Liberal electorate is dumb is like saying Tom Brady is an ok quarterback, but Obamy is smart enough to prey on the lunatic emotiions of his base.

WHOOWEEE……..it reeks of Clintonism, don’ it?

Let’s just go with they’re born that way, homos that is. I would call it a birth defect. Let’s see, if a baby is born with a hole in the heart a doctor operates to repair it and if a baby is born with a cleft palate, again, a doctor operates to correct it. Homosexuality is an obvious defect from the way God planned humans or for the atheists just get an anatomy chart I think it’s self evident. SOOOOO let’s not criminalize it let’s call it a medical condition that needs to be treated and corrected. Or we could just go with they’re all perverts that will stick it or lick it anywhere, at anytime, with anyone. And what about the poor quadrasexuals who will do anything, to anybody, at anytime, for a quarter.

“And what about the poor quadrasexuals who will do anything, to anybody, at anytime, for a quarter.”

They get elected to Congress, ruin the economy, and pretend like they know something about the auto industry (and everything else).

  4. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

“join with other countries that are standing up and calling for decriminalization of homosexuality,”

It’s not criminal in our country to be gay. Once again the “brave” crusaders for the downtrodden choose the safest target to direct their ire towards.

  5. Chinnubie says:

This is just the beginning to the eventual legalization of incest & pedophilia. There is a mental problem with these people just look at how they justify the “Man Boy Love Association” website.

The whole, anything homosexual, institutionalized by some government agency is a slippery slope to hell because we can all see where this is going to lead. History repeating itself was always kind-of funny to me, but now, I know we are the Roman Empire headed for a serious downfall with all of this liberal nonsense!!!

  6. scotta says:

Does anyone here actually think there should be laws against homosexuality?

    • 1sttofight says:

What people do in the privacy of their own home is none of my business, but they cross the line when they get in my face and tell me what they do and that I have to condone it.

    • Liberals Demise says:

ROGER THAT, 1st. Hetros don’t flaunt their sexuality in anyones face much less a parade. Why is that homos have to splash their vile pervertions on the masses when if they would just gobble and nibble behind closed doors, it would be “NONE OF MY BUSINESS”.
Simply put, “There are no HOMOS in heaven.”

    • Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

No, I don’t. However, I do not think that there should be any special protections for a group based upon sexual preference. If I don’t want to hire a homosexual or let a homosexual live in a property I’m renting, that should be my right.

    • sheehanjihad says:

There should be no laws against homosexuality. However, there are laws against lewd public behavior, harassment, bigotry, and hate crimes. All of which are ok if gays participate in it, but are illegal if hetros are offended and say something.

What people do in private should be just that, private. But when some gay activist gets in my face because I dont agree with their agenda, that is an invasion of MY privacy. What bothers me is how easily the gay community condemns intolerance and hatred of their lifestyle, yet, they march, protest, scream insults, are virtually intolerant of anyone who doesnt agree with them, and are filled with an almost psychotic hatred of anyone who doesnt support their cause.

If you are gay, be gay! I dont care! But do not try to have LAWS passed that allow you to do whatever you feel like under the protection of bogus hate crime laws. You hate me, I know you do! So you are guilty of what you are trying to protect yourself from. If you would just shut the eff up, and go do your thing without trying to force it on everyone else, you would find a lot more “tolerance” for your lifestyle choice than you are getting now

. Bottom line….I dont stand in front of your place of business exhorting people to boycott you for being gay, but there you are in front of mine, screaming about my intolerance for your idea of what is acceptable. The hypocrisy is astounding.

    • GuppyNblue says:

“Does anyone here actually think there should be laws against homosexuality?”

Yes! Those same laws against me parading in public with the general hanging out. But in San Francisco they suspend indecency laws to let them demonstrate their perversions in public. In front of everybody, including children.

Don’t even try to twist this around and make it sound like we are the aggressors.
