Anyway, my original point was, as stated by Exeter, that history must be re-written if the Democrats are going to come out looking like the saviors of US civilization.

Alexander Hamilton really created the first political party – the Federalists, who were dedicated to getting the Constitution ratified. Thomas Jefferson and other opponents – those who feared Federalism and wanted to retain the Articles of Confederation – were called the anti-Federalists. Jefferson later called his party the “Republicans” to imply that the Federalists were not on the side of the people. The Federalists disintegrated shortly afterwards, and the so-called Republicans began to splinter into “adjective” parties (National Republicans, Independent Republicans, Democratic Republicans, etc.). Andrew Jackson emerged from the Democratic Republicans and adopted the name, “Democrat”. Their opponents, under Henry Clay, called themselves Whigs (after the British party of the rising middle-class). The Whigs eventually collapsed, divided as they were on slavery issues, while the remnants of that party gathered again and put John C. Fremont on their “Republican” ticket in 1856. They chose the name to insinuate that the Democrats had fallen away from Jefferson and their Republican roots. Then of course, Abraham Lincoln became president in 1860 – thus the birth (actually a rebirth) of the Republican Party.

Even now, the Democrats recognize Jefferson and Jackson as the founders of their party. Republicans, of course, are proud to be “The Party of Lincoln”. These party names have been established since 1828 and 1856 respectively, and have not changed. The Democrats have been on the wrong side of every major issue since their beginning – abortion, segregation, slavery, the Federal banking system, even the adoption of the Constitution itself. I guess this is why they need to rewrite history through the publik skool system. The teachers are either woefully ignorant or outright lying. I’m not sure which one is worse.

Your statement is untrue. I was taught the same thing and/or confused, too. The confusion mainly stems from the fact that the modern Democratic Party is an offshoot of the Democratic-Republican party. The modern Republican Party has a different bloodline.

I know you will find this difficult to believe, and I understand because we’re on the same page here. However, my daughter (conservative to the core and attends an Ivy League University) learned in the public high school she attended that the Republican party of Abraham Lincoln were actually the Democrats. It gets confusing, those Republicans are actually today’s Democrats, and the Democrats are actually now today’s Republicans. Understand? Me neither, but that’s what the publik skools are saying. :)

Another peculiar element of the early Republican party is, the Abolition Movement was the “Religious Right” – the narrow, “fanatic” base of the GOP much like the Pro-Life movement is now. In the years following the Civil War, it was the Radical Republican base that passed the XIII, XIV and XV Amendments to ensure American citizenship for blacks. It was the Democrats, after wresting control of Congress, that allowed the southern states to institute segregation with the ‘Black Codes’ and ‘Jim Crow’ laws (ironically, they did this by deceiving the newly-enfranchised blacks).

Somehow, the Dems have managed to realign the truth – slavery=freedom, and abolition=slavery. You have to admire the accomplishment; I can’t think of a more successful lie in history.

Democrats.
Who supported the Ku Klux Klan?

Democrats.
Who maintained “Jim Crow” and segregation?
Democrats.

No matter how much they deny it and lie about it, the ‘rats supported slavery, secession and wanted to surrender to the Confederacy. Any American with any honest knowledge of history knows this. The ‘rats stood for segregation and still want to keep blacks enslaved and beholden to them. These creeps haven’t changed in 170 years, they’ve just become more evil.

But it doesn’t matter. Incidents like this will get buried on page 15 of the daily news, if reported at all. Page 1 news is reserved for Obama, we should all know this by now.
