Weiner Still Won’t Pull Out Of Race; Huma Wept

From Reuters:

Weiner vows in video to stay in New York City mayoral race

By Edith Honan | July 30, 2013

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Anthony Weiner, under fire after admitting that he sent lewd pictures to women online long after resigning from Congress over similar behavior, will not exit the New York City mayoral race because quitting "isn’t the way we roll in New York City."

He is so hip. Actually, that isn’t the way Democrats roll anywhere. (Look at Mayor Bob Filner.) Nothing can shame a Democrat into dropping out of a race of resigning their office. (Cf. Bill Clinton.) Whereas even just the allegation of wrong-doing is good enough to send most Republicans packing.

But you have to admire Weiner. He just won’t quit. Maybe his online name should have been ‘Carlos Cialis.’ Still, if Weiner keeps this up for another 48 hours maybe he should see a physician.

In a video message posted on his campaign website on Tuesday evening, Weiner said his campaign is not about him but about helping New Yorkers.

If he going to get everyone jobs at the Politico and condos in Chicago?

As his poll numbers tank and calls for him to drop out of the race increase, Weiner said, "You know, sometimes people say to me, ‘This campaign is pretty rough. You may want to quit.’ I know that there are newspaper editors, other politicians that say, ‘Boy, I wish that guy Weiner would quit,’" he said. "They don’t know New York. They certainly don’t know me." …

And they don’t realize how badly Weiner wants to hold on to his $5 million dollar campaign war chest.

People magazine: Huma Abedin broke down, cried

By TAL KOPAN | July 31, 2013

Huma Abedin considered leaving Anthony Weiner amid new revelations of his online relationships, but ended up deciding to support him even if it damages her own credibility, according to an upcoming article in People magazine.

People interviewed Abedin’s family and close friends for a new piece, “Why Huma Stayed,” and they said that after the new revelations about her husband’s continued sexting, Abedin broke down and has spent the time since crying and talking to friends…

Though the couple apparently warned their family a split may be imminent, according to friends, Abedin decided to stay in the marriage for their son.

And a shot at higher office, via the ‘Hillary path.’

Friends also told the magazine that Abedin knows supporting her husband damages her credibility. “Every day that she alluded to his problems and said he’s a better man, and it’s in the past — she was taking it too far. She knows that,” People quoted a close friend as saying.

In other words, she hurt her credibility by being too obvious when she lied.

The article also addresses the couple’s interview with People in July 2012 in which they said the online relationships were in the past. Friends said Abedin did believe that the relationships were over at the time of that interview, but after a strained subsequent vacation Weiner admitted he had had more encounters, including with Sydney Leathers, and the couple re-entered therapy.

Uh huh.

Abedin is committed to Weiner’s campaign and upset that some of their friends — including her adoptive second family, the Clintons — have turned their backs on him, People reported…

With people like the Clintons’ loyalty is strictly a one way street.  Once you are no longer useful, you are history.
