Well, the list could have a thousand entries. There are at least a thousand things you do that you would probably be better off if you didn’t do them.

It evolved as a survival mechanism. Skinny people didn’t survive hard times as well as people who stored fat, so genes that would prevent fat storage were deselected because their owners died.

So now we must violate nature.
