WH: Pakistan Taliban Behind NYC Bomb

From a similarly gobsmacked Associated Press:

Supporters of the youth wing of the Pakistani religious party Jamat-e-Islami rally to support Faisal Shahzad, the suspect accused of the failed Times Square car bombing, in Karachi, Pakistan on Thursday, May 6, 2010.

White House says Pakistan Taliban behind NY bomb

By Anne Flaherty, Associated Press Writer

May 9, 2010

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama’s homeland security and counterterrorism adviser said Sunday that authorities believe the Pakistani Taliban was behind the attempted bombing at Times Square.

White House adviser John Brennan said that while the investigation is ongoing, it appears that accused bomber Faisal Shahzad was working for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP. The militant group is believed to be hiding senior al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden.

Brennan said the finding "underscores the serious threat that we face from a very determined enemy."

The conclusion seemed to contradict a recent statement by Gen. David Petraeus, who said Shahzad apparently operated as a "lone wolf." Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command, said in a statement Friday to The Associated Press that while Shahzad was inspired by militants in Pakistan, he didn’t necessarily have direct contact with them.

Brennan’s comments come after speculation that TTP had orchestrated the attack. Shahzad, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, spent five months in Pakistan before returning to the United States in February and preparing his attack…

Gee, what was their first hint?

Still, we can’t be absolutely certain until Secretary Janet Napolitano makes her pronouncement.

    The evidence supports Petraeus’ view:

    – incompetant bomb maker (non-explosive fertilizer, mishandled propane tanks, etc)
    – clueless about many other things (left keys in car, continued to use cell phone, didn’t remove all VINs from the blow-up car, etc.)
    – the Taliban is disowning the guy
    – 13 trips to Pok-ees-tan. He wasn’t exactly below the radar.
    – The general isn’t a liar, and everything the administration sats is a lie

He wasn’t acting completely alone because somebody was giving him money, but he doesn’t appear to have the backing of an organization with the capabilities of Al Queda or the Taliban. Or perhaps they were helping but not with the full force of their experts. If they were helping him, they might have thought he was a double agent.

      Proreason,
Just because the timers were set for AM not PM doesn’t make him an inept bomb maker. It may have in fact exploded given the chance. Also, I do not buy the story that the fertilizer was innert.
And, I would bet you wouldn’t know where to locate, nor how many VIN #’s are on that car.
In addition, if you don’t plan on driving the car ever again, why take the keys? Why chance getting caught with them?
Also, the NYPD claimed that at least one part of that would-be bomb was in excess of 200 pounds and would have taken two people to lift into place in the car.
If he acted alone, who were the other two people taken off that plane? And who was he calling if he was using that phone (a phone he had no idea was being monitored and the Obama Administration leaked the info that that was one of the ways we caught him letting future would-be terrorists know to be more careful and switch phones more often).
I won’t say Patreus is an idiot, but why open your mouth at all, especially when it looks like this terrorist definitely had help?

      gee Bobon,

It’s hard to disagree with you, since you deny every piece of information published about the guy. I’ll bet you win ALL of your debates.

I’m a sceptic by nature, but you got me beat by several light years.

    Shahzad!

I guess Arabs DO cause terrorism after all!

Maybe the 911 liberals will FINALLY admit that:
    1. Arabs took credit for the attack on 911
    2. Arabs took part in the attack on 911
    3. Arab citizens cheered and gave out sweets in the streets on 911
    4. People can’t keep their mouth shut to keep a gov’t conspiracy secret with media and magazines willing to shell out Millions to whistleblowers
    5. Arabs KEEP causing terrorism time after time

I know that the nearest rich or rich white person needs to be blamed 100% of the time, but sometimes the peg just doesn’t fit no matter how hard you hammer it.

C’mon, you know 9/11 was an inside job! And even if if you could produse all 19 terrorists in the flesh to tell a “True Believer” that is was actually done by the 19 muslems with help from fellow Arabs and showed exactly how steel was forged (actually melted and poured, not chiseled from a quarry) they still wouldn’t believe you. It’s America’s fault. Period.

This could be a blind squirrel moment, but …

Clearly Shahzad went over there to get something from somebody.

But why does Holder say the Taliban, and specifically the “Pakistani” Taliban?

I certainly don’t know otherwise, but Holder has ZERO credibility with me.

Red Hussein has been pissing and moaning about Pakistan since he got into office, and that isn’t because he is passionate about defending American interests. On the contrary, he’s normally running around kissing mohammedan butt.

I haven’t figured this out but something doesn’t smell right.
