WH: Sequester Can’t Cut Obama-Care Subsidies

From the National Journal:

White House: Sequester No Longer Applies to Part of Obamacare

By Sam Baker | March 13, 2014

The Obama administration has decided that the sequester’s mandatory spending cuts no longer apply to part of Obamacare.

It’s good to be the king. Apparently, selective enforcement of the Laws Of The Land — is now the Law Of The Land. And the word ‘mandatory’ just means something is mandatory only if Obama likes the idea.

The health care law provides subsidies to help low-income people cover some of their out-of-pocket costs. Last year, the administration said those subsidies were taking a 7 percent cut because of the sequester, which imposed across-the-board reductions in federal spending.

But now, the White House has changed its mind. It removed the cost-sharing subsidies from its list of programs that are subject to the sequester, eliminating the 7 percent cut for 2015.

Isn’t it funny? Back when the White House tours were cancelled and many airports were backed up because of the sequester cuts, Obama told us he couldn’t do anything about it. He said he couldn’t pick and choose what things would be cut and what wouldn’t.

In fact, he even threatened to veto any bills that would give him the power to pick and choose what would be cut. But now all of a sudden Obama can pick and choose what the sequester can and can’t cut.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, which noticed the change, said the reversal would likely restore about $560 million to the subsidies—and require $560 million in cuts to other programs to make up for it…

Other programs = military. Always.

Who benefits from the change? The low-income families who qualify for these subsidies, as well as the White House and insurance companies.

Oh, and the Democrats who are running for re-election in 2014.

Some consumers have complained about high out-of-pocket costs in the plans they’ve purchased through the health care law’s exchanges. This change will help reduce those costs, at least for low-income families. And because the subsidy is paid directly to insurance companies, the change means more money for insurers as well…

And it’s all free!

Steve, you need to start pacing yourself with the “Law of the Land” quotations. Obama is “just getting started”, as Al Pacino’s character said in Scent of a Woman.

The clock is ticking – he’s got to really move, especially IF the 2014 elections swing to the Republicans.

    And move he will.

‘The Charge Of The Light Brigade’
      by Alfred Lord Tennyson
the insane and callous ordering of a Brigade of horsemen to attack a Russian battalion that had them surrounded on three sides.

The charge of the Light Brigade continues to be studied by modern military historians and students as an example of what can go wrong when accurate military intelligence is lacking and orders are unclear.
Due to miscommunication in the chain of command, the Light Brigade was instead sent on a frontal assault against a different artillery battery, one well-prepared with excellent fields of defensive fire.
Although the Light Brigade reached the battery under withering direct fire and scattered some of the gunners, the badly-mauled brigade was forced to retreat immediately. Thus, the assault ended with very high British casualties and no decisive gains.
Published just six weeks after the event, its lines emphasize the valour of the cavalry in bravely carrying out their orders, regardless of the obvious outcome. Blame for the miscommunication has remained controversial, as the original order from Raglan (Lord Raglan, overall commander of the British forces.) itself was vague.

the American people are just cannon fodder for the System.
the rich guys may write the checks, but they still need us coolies to vote.
