Whoops! Most Americans Say Aliens Kids Aren’t ‘Refugees’

From an outraged Associated Press:

Poll: Americans cool to border-crossing children

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Americans are wary of granting refugee status to children crossing the U.S. border to flee strife-torn countries in Central America, and most in an Associated Press-GfK poll say the U.S. does not have a moral obligation to accept asylum seekers generally.

The new poll found 53 percent of Americans believe the United States has no moral obligation to offer asylum to people who escape violence or political persecution, while 44 percent believe it has that responsibility.

And more than half, 52 percent, say children who say they are fleeing gang violence in Central America should not be treated as refugees, while 46 percent say they should.

Wow, and we were just told that the vast majority of Americans say these illegal aliens should be treated as refugees. Whom to believe?

The responses expose a partisan rift, with 70 percent of Republicans saying Central American children should not be treated as refugees compared with 62 percent of Democrats who believe they should. On whether the United States has an obligation to accept people fleeing violence or political persecution, 66 percent of Republicans say it does not and 57 percent of Democrats say it does…

The results of this poll have infuriated the AP so much, they quickly decided to explain it away.

From the Associated Press:

5 things to know on the AP-GfK immigration poll

By JENNIFER AGIESTA | July 29, 2014

Five things to know from the new Associated Press-GfK poll on immigration:

1. LOTS OF BLAME TO GO AROUND. … Americans place more blame on Republicans in Congress (44 percent say they deserve all or a lot of the blame) than on Democrats (36 percent) or President Barack Obama (38 percent) for that lack of legislative action, according to the poll…

2. HISPANICS SOUR ON OBAMA’S HANDLING OF IMMIGRATION. … Just 29 percent of Hispanics said they approve of the way Obama is handling immigration, down from 42 percent in May..

3. WHO’S TUNED IN? POTENTIAL VOTERS. … The groups of tuned-in potential voters tilt a bit more Republican than the general public, and are more apt to say they trust Republicans to handle immigration.

4. CHANGE THE LAW OVER FUNDING THE CURRENT ONE. By a 2-to-1 margin, Americans oppose the current process for handling unaccompanied children arriving in the country illegally, which requires that they stay in the U.S. to await a deportation hearing, either with a family member or a sponsor or in a shelter arranged by the government…

5. GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR … OH, NEVER MIND. A narrow majority of Americans (53 percent) say the United States does not have a moral obligation to offer asylum to those seeking an escape from political persecution or violence in their home countries…

The AP seems to believe that a poem about legal immigration, ‘The New Colossus,’ written by an avowed socialist (aka communist) is a legally binding suicide pact for our country. They probably think it’s in the Constitution somewhere, too.
