Will Obama Ban Executions Via Executive Order?

From a cheering New York Times:

Obama Orders Policy Review on Executions

By PETER BAKER | May 2, 2014

WASHINGTON — President Obama declared this week’s botched execution in Oklahoma “deeply disturbing” and directed the attorney general on Friday to review how the death penalty is applied in the United States at a time when it has become increasingly debated.

The murderer died. So we’re not sure how ‘botched’ his execution was.

Weighing in on a polarizing issue that he rarely discusses, Mr. Obama said the Oklahoma episode, in which a prisoner remained groaning in pain after sedatives were apparently not fully delivered, underscored concerns with capital punishment as it is carried out in America today.

Clayton Lockett murdered a 19 year old girl, after making her watch her own grave being dug. He shot her, after his pals laughed about his gun jamming the first time. Then he and his pals buried her while she was still alive.

So we are not particularly troubled that he murder was able to lift his head and moan after his lethal injection. But Obama often seems eager to empathize with terrorists and murders. (Like the terrorists of 9/11.)

While reiterating his support for the death penalty in certain cases, Mr. Obama said Americans should “ask ourselves some difficult and profound questions” about its use.

Thanks to the efforts by Astro-turf activists, the drug companies are making the chemical injections harder to get. (And, we suspect, or even less reliable.)

Okay then, let’s bring back the gas chamber or the electric chair or the rope. Anything to please the overly sensitive among us.

Within hours, the Justice Department outlined a relatively narrow review focused on how executions are carried out rather assessing the entire system. But given Mr. Obama’s broader comments, supporters and opponents wondered whether he might be foreshadowing an eventual shift in position by the time he leaves office, much as he dropped his opposition to same-sex marriage in 2012.

“In the application of the death penalty in this country, we have seen significant problems — racial bias, uneven application of the death penalty, you know, situations in which there were individuals on death row who later on were discovered to have been innocent because of exculpatory evidence,” Mr. Obama told reporters. “And all these, I think, do raise significant questions about how the death penalty is being applied.”

Here we go again with the race card. By the way, Mr. Lockett and his accomplices were/are black and the girl he killed and the others they attack (including a baby) were/are white. Where is the outrage?

Whether Mr. Obama’s concerns lead to policy proposals remained far from certain..

Don’t worry. There won’t be any "policy proposals." There will be a paragraph buried in the Federal Register some Friday evening, when nobody is looking. And it will, in effect, make it impossible for states to continue with executions. No matter what their citizens want.

The federal government has effectively imposed its own moratorium on carrying out executions since 2010 while trying to figure out issues surrounding the drug cocktail commonly used for lethal injection. The Justice Department said Friday that it would build on that assessment…

You see? It’s already happening.

For Democrats, opposition to the death penalty has been considered politically untenable at the national level ever since Michael S. Dukakis cost himself support with a clinical answer during a 1988 presidential debate about whether he would support it if his wife were raped and killed…

Which is why Obama has to pretend to support the death penalty, while he does everything he can to undermine it.

For now, Mr. Obama said his position had not changed…

Which is what he always says, right before he illegally re-writes another one of our nation’s laws.

    “By the way, Mr. Lockett was white and the girl he killed was white.”

    Actually Clayton Lockett was black and his victim, Stephanie Neiman, was a white girl.

    Nothing new under the sun.

    Tough talk from the executer in chief. I guess in the future the death plenty can only be administered though extra-judicial drone strikes.

    new proposed lethal cocktail formula;
    using scientifically proven toxic substances.

    one medium well done steak,

    a pile of greasy French fries,

    a 16 oz soft drink (non diet)

    followed by a cigarette.

    “The Ballad of the Green Berets” playing in background optional.

    guaranteed to cause instant death.

    news update;

    the Ninth Circuit Court Rules new method Cruel and unusual punishment .

    the written legal opinion states;

    ” except when used for Conservative Whites ,this form of execution is a throwback to Medieval torture…”

    I posted the original AP-weeping article a week ago though it didn’t get much attention here.

    I stated that it’s really a curious conundrum that the socialists are so against the death penalty, claiming to “respect human life, above all else” yet when it comes to abortions, not so much.

    I cannot fathom the moral argument. I cannot understand their claim to the moral high-ground either. But those two statements are rhetorical anyhow.

    A murderer shoots a person to death but somehow, in this case, it’s not the gun’s fault as it would be if a Southern redneck “cowboy” (with a conceal carry permit) were to do it. Somehow it’s the fault of society and it will take a village to correct the problem.

    Right.

    Collective groupthink is crap. Always was crap and will always be crap. Mob mentality is another oxymoron with emphasis on the “moron” part. It takes a working intellect, a good moral center and an IQ higher than room temperature to properly assess the issue. We’ve now made the mistake though of assuming people with certificates on the wall are somehow more wise. They may be more “learned” but they haven’t shown me anything more than a continuous allegiance to the socialist agenda.

    They say with age comes wisdom, but sometimes age shows up all by itself.

    *sigh*

    Life, the Universe and Everything.

    Like Obama really watched the video tape, or even waited for the autopsy report as he opened his big mouth as soon as it was reported.

    Left out is Obama and the DOJ that continue to allow a shortage of the normal cocktail used for years.

    Death row executions give the criminals easier deaths than nearly everyone else in the world.

    He wasn’t groaning from pain, but snoring as the muscle relaxer he was given caused his heart to stop.

    It’s difficult to know because all the liberal media have told so many different stories.

    Now his uncaring, unharmed family coming out of the wood work wanting to sue.

      One thing is evident from obambi who won’t let this isolated incident drop. The murderer was Black, and…… there must not be more Blacks put to death than Whites in Oklahoma or he’d be
      complaining.

      This murderous animal suffered less than people with cancer losing their doctors because of the failed Obama care.

      This complaining from Obama who called the torturous murders of 4 dead Americans in Benghazi

      “a bump in the road”.

      Obama’s pun for the US Ambassador being dragged through the streets.
