Willie Nelson Gives Generator To Sheehan

From the central Texas NBC affiliate NBC 6:

Cindy Sheehan tries to cool herself during a rare half hour-long visit to Camp Casey III on Aug. 13, 2006.

Willie Nelson donates to Cindy Sheehan’s protest site

Aug 16, 2006

Country music legend Willie Nelson made a hefty donation to anti-war demonstrator Cindy Sheehan’s Crawford protest site.

Nelson donated a 5,000 watt bio-diesel fueled generator, valued at nearly $10,000. The protest site has been without electricity and running water since the five acre plot of land was bought late last month because of problems getting permits and permission from neighbors for those utilities.

Protestor Dave Jensen said, "Cindy called Willie Nelson and asked where we could get a bio-diesel fueled generator and Willie said he’s got one on the way for us." The two week protest at the Crawford site will end September 2, 2006.

I sure hope Mr. Nelson doesn’t expect a $10,000 tax deduction.

— But what am I thinking. Mr. Nelson doesn’t pay taxes. Like his fellow celebrity, Mother Sheehan, he is above such petty things.

By the way, it’s been suggested that Cindy is actually staying at Nelson’s ranch for her "recuperation." (If so, I hope she doesn’t get the munchies.)

If so, it is typical of her that she would keep that information from her cruelly misled dupes supporters.

Willie Nelson’s contribution seems to have impressed at least one person.

From the DNC’s Associated Press:

Kinky backs Willie as Texas energy czar

Aug. 18, 2006, 5:06PM

FORT WORTH, Texas — Independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman on Friday reiterated his top pick to implement his energy plan that emphasizes renewable sources: Willie Nelson.

Friedman said the country singer/songwriter and benefactor of biodiesel was a natural choice to lead a state energy department or commission, which he wants to create. He also said Nelson "would never have his hand in Texas’ pocket."

"My plan is to appoint the best people I can find, get out of the way and let them work … people whose only agenda is to do the right thing for the people of Texas," Friedman told the Fort Worth Rotary Club. "… I really believe that musicians can better run this state than politicians."

A Texas biodiesel supplier partnered with Nelson to develop the BioWillie brand of the clean-burning fuel for truckers. It is made from used vegetable oils or soybeans and is blended with diesel, and does not require modification to diesel engines.

Nelson is on the board of directors of Dallas-based Earth Biofuels, which produces biodiesel and is the exclusive distributor of Nelson’s signature brand of biodiesel. Nelson did not immediately return calls seeking comment Friday…

Bio-diesels for everyone.

Though, judging from the latest news reports about how the four peaceniks still in Crawford are suffering, Willie has yet to deliver on his promised generator for Camp Casey.

So he’ll be a natural as a politician.
