Wisconsin School Taught ‘White Privilege’ Class

From Fox News:

Public School Teaches “White Privilege” Class

By Todd Starnes | Jan 15, 2013

A school district in Wisconsin said they will review a high school diversity class that exposed students to radical leftist thinkers and promoted a critical race theory that alleges white people are oppressors.

The “American Diversity” class was taught to students at Delavan-Darien High School in Wisconsin, Fox News has learned.

“They’re teaching white guilt,” one parent told Fox News. “They’re dividing the students. They’re saying to non-whites, ‘You have been oppressed and you’re still being oppressed.’”

The parent, who asked not to be identified, has an 18-year-old son who was enrolled in the class and became alarmed after she looked at some of the handouts provided to the students.

“I felt it was indoctrination,” she said. “This is a radical left agenda and ideology that is now embedded in our school.”

The parent said the students were taught “if you’re white, you’re oppressing. If you’re non white, you’ve been a victim.”

What’s the problem? How’s this any different from what Obama says, and probably used to teach?

According to handouts obtained by Fox News, “white privilege” was defined as “a set of advantages that are believed to be enjoyed by white people beyond those commonly experienced by non-white people in the same social, political, and economic spaces (nation, community, workplace, income, etc.”

Students were also given a handout from University of Texas professor Robert Jensen arguing that people don’t have complete control over their fate.

“There is not space here to list all the ways in which white privilege plays out in our lives, but it is clear that I will carry this privilege with me until the day white supremacy is erased from society,” he wrote…

Robert Jensen is a journalism professor and the author of ‘The Heart of Whiteness: Confronting Race, Racism and White Privilege.’ Prof. Jensen also insists that we abandon Thanksgiving as a national holiday, and instead observe a national day of atonement.

In fact, Mr. Jensen has written that: "One indication of moral progress in the United States would be the replacement of Thanksgiving Day and its self-indulgent family feasting with a National Day of Atonement accompanied by a self-reflective collective fasting…

[But] not only is the thought of such a change in this white-supremacist holiday impossible to imagine, but the very mention of the idea sends most Americans into apoplectic fits — which speaks volumes about our historical hypocrisy and its relation to the contemporary politics of empire in the United States…"

[One parent] brought the material to the attention of school officials and eventually to Robert Crist, the new superintendent of the Delavan-Darien School District.

“A lot of red flags go up in my mind when I look at the materials,” Crist told Fox News. “Her concern has merit.”

How come this was news to the superintendent? Doesn’t he look at the material used in the curriculum?

“Ideally, you would want to present one theory that might be way on the left and another theory that may be way on the right and if you find one in the middle you can present that, too,” he said. “Now you have a well-rounded discussion in my opinion.”

Huh? What is Mr. Crist’s middle ground on murder, for instance?

Crist said he believes the class was being taught long before he became superintendent. The course is currently undergoing an evaluation.

“The class will not be taught again until that process is fully complete,” Crist said.

He said the teacher, who is young, used the materials to “stimulate the thought process.” “I don’t believe he intended to indoctrinate anybody,” he said.

Of course, it was all an innocent mistake.

But the material that has been presented to students in the conservative community did concern the superintendent.

“I’m out of an old-fashioned school,” he said. “I believe in helping kids understand the basic objectives of curriculum and not use some radical material to get a student to support some kind of a special theory.” …

At the same time, Crist said schools have a responsibility to prepare students for the real world.

“There are a lot of radical people in our country and across the world,” he said. “They need to be ideally attuned to some of the different thought patterns that different cultures may have.”

Right. That’s why we need to expose students to every crazy idea that comes down the pike. Just in case they don’t own TVs or radios.

    “…with a National Day of Atonement accompanied by a self-reflective collective fasting…”

Which oddly strikes me as a completely muslim way of doing things.

Atone for what? And to whom? Time to invest in sackcloth and ashes?
What a maroon!!! Sounds Frenchified to me.

  3. Why can’t they call a spade a spade. This isn’t a class on white privilege. It is a class on imposed guilt and self absorbed victimhood. And since critical thinking has been removed from the classroom, whatever the teacher (STATE) tells you is the truth. They’re imposing an entirely manufactured racial identity on a whole generation.

The premise is that ALL white people are oppressing ALL non-white people. I must have missed the memo. Where do I go to hone my oppressing skills? Do they have weekend classes? I have to work during the week so I only have the weekends to learn all the necessary skills. I’ve never oppressed anyone before, and if I’ve been shirking my racial responsibility for damned near 50 years, I should probably git to learnin’.

The new requirement to become “National Certified” is based on teachers unique creative experiments and assignments for students. There are no bars. There is no prior approval. It’s a free for all.

Students are literally being used by their teachers to gain this new “national certification”.

Many of these type assignments are taught in order for college students going for their teachers degrees.

And not even the vice-principals, yet alone the principals know or care what is being taught.
The teachers just wrap it up with a bow and get praised and rewarded for their creativeness.

Worse is teachers keep this “very personal information” of our youth on a disk to use the rest of the careers for resumes and to show how inventive they are.

When I told my 18 year old son after voting for his first time, that a bunch of people that went to the tea party’s he accompanied me to, he just shook his head and looked sad. I pity our children and I pity our old people.
