Woman Dead 40 Yrs Gets Stimulus Check

From the Baltimore NBC affiliate WBAL:

Dead Woman Gets Federal Stimulus Check

Son Wants To Keep Check As Souvenir

May 12, 2009

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY — Millions of Americans on Social Security are receiving $250 checks as part of the president’s stimulus plan — including an Anne Arundel woman who died more than 40 years ago.

The woman’s son, 83-year-old James Hagner, said he got the surprise when he checked his mailbox late last week.

"It shocked me and I laughed all at the same time," Hagner said. "I don’t even expect to get one my own self, and I get one for my mother for 43 years ago?"

Social Security representatives said there is a good explanation. Of the about 52 million checks that have been mailed out, about 10,000 of those have been sent to people who are deceased.

The agency blames the error on the strict mid-June deadline of mailing out all of the checks, which didn’t leave officials much time to clean up all of their records.

Agents ask that people return the check if they receive it.

Hagner said he’d like to frame it and hang it on his wall.

"I just want to keep it as a souvenir, that’s all. I’ll never cash it," Hagner said.

Social Security officials said they aren’t expecting to lose too much money to fraud. They’re reminding the public that it’s a federal offense to cash someone else’s Social Security check.

Well, you can’t say he doesn’t reward his voters.

What an excellent explanation.

That is, if you work for the federal government and never have to answer for your screw-ups.

But what do they care? It’s not their money.

I wonder how many times she voted for The Moron.

And I guess one thing this does prove is that once in a very great while the government can make a mistake.

It’s good to know that we have humans there. I was feeling a bit intimidated contemplating the pantheon of gods now controlling our lives.

      Too many to count, perhaps.

Being the good Chicagoian BHO is, I’m sure she voted “early and often” that is how people (dead, alive or imaginary) vote in Cook County.

With Acorn’s help, BHO can now spread this voting to the rest of the country. After all, why let a simple matter of someone dying deny them of their God-given right to vote Democratic.

Yeah!! Didn’t someones’ dead grandma vote in this last election?
      (how many times?)

    You stole my thunder, pro!!
At least she REALLY did exist!!
I wonder how many States she voted in?

    Ooooo. I’m scared.

You know what else is a federal offense? Tax evasion.

I’m ready for my cabinet position now.

  4. Let’s do some quick math here: $250 * 10,000 people = $2.5 million. Now that is a big mistake. Shouldn’t someone be fired over this? And I want to know how someone who has been dead for 43 years is still on this list that they are using.

    • curvyred says:

Great question – I would also like to know why they are mailing checks – because I was under the impression that Social Security had a mandate a few years ago that required all recepients to get direct deposit.

    • Right of the People says:

I’m with you CA Bear. To quote: “Social Security officials said they aren’t expecting to lose too much money to fraud.” I guess 2.5 mil is peanuts to a guy who spends trillions.

    • Didn’t obama’s administration say that they are tracking how all the stimulus money is spent? Do you think we are going to see anything about this in their reports? Are we going to know of people who fradulently cashed these checks? Probably not, since they more than likely work for ACORN, the SEIU or any other “government organization”

Can’t you read CaliforniaBear, they were pressed for time and only had 43 years to get their records straightened out. What are you some kind of a slave driver?

I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that some Obama crony somewhere ended up with at least a few hundred thousands bucks in his or her pocket. It’s a shame that half the government is corrupt and the other half is a bunch of sniveling cowards.

  7. BigOil says:

This must be an example of the government efficiency Odumbo referred to which will streamline medical billing practices and save us trillions.

FTA,”They’re reminding the public that it’s a federal offense to cash someone else’s Social Security check.”

Why is it not a federal offense to issue a check to a dead person?

Clean up the frickin records. These people are dead. Why would you not mark the record as being dead so nothing would go out.

    Our government sucks big time.

Serendipidously, useless old white people will begin dying like flies.

THAT will cause a huge problem with check sub-system that is funding Acorn by subsidizing Obamy’s “ex voters”.
