Woody Allen, Almodovar: Free Polanski!

Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar And More Sign Petition To Release Roman Polanski

Los Angeles, CA (CNS) – Some of the biggest names in Hollywood are backing Roman Polanski up. Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, David Lynch, Pedro Almodovar, and John Landis are among those who have signed a petition objecting to the fugitive filmmaker’s arrest.

Polanski was taken into custody in Zurich on Saturday while he was on his way to the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland to receive a lifetime achievement award. His arrest stems from his 1978 statutory rape conviction for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

He is set to be extradited to the U.S.

More than 100 filmmakers and actors signed a letter demanding the 76-year-old Polanski’s release. Stars and filmmakers who signed include Darren Aronofsky, Monica Belluci, Tilda Swinton, and Terry Gilliam.

Meanwhile, Polanski is facing more jail time after his legal team asked a Swiss court to release him. The decision could take weeks, which would mean the director would wait behind bars until such time.

Now those are some great character witnesses.

Mr. Allen’s credentials regarding the subject are fairly well known.

‘Openly gay’ Pedro Almodóvar’s breakthrough movie, the 1984 ‘What Have I Done To Deserve This?,’ was a comedy in which a mother sells her 12 year old son to a homosexual dentist as a sex slave.

Mr. Almodóvar’s first film in 1978 was entitled, ‘Folle, folle, fólleme, Tim’ (‘F**k Me, F**k Me, F**k Me, Tim’).

Maybe these two moral exemplars can serve on Mr. Polanski’s jury, that is if he is going to get a jury of his peers.

The last benchmark for a moral people: protecting the children, is being challenged by those that offer the worst character to comment upon the issue.

But we can’t judge them, right?

But they can make judgements about us all day long.

  2. BigOil says:

Once again, the light gets switched on and we get a good look at all the Hollywood cockroaches.

I have stopped going to movies because I can’t stand a dime of mine in the hands of these degenerates.

  3. Confucius says:

Who listens to these nobodies and has-beens?

Personally, I’m waiting for Pee Wee Herman to weigh in.

  4. NickB says:

Hilarious! Polanski gets a fellow pedophile and a sexual deviant to take up for him. Too damn funny.

  5. Tater Salad says:

Both are typical Whack-Jobs and both should be in jail. Enough said! Polanski should get at least 5 to 10 years at Folsum.

  6. dadamhewitt says:

I am shocked, shocked to find such deviancy in the film and theatre world…

  7. proreason says:

Gee, curious george that I am, I can’t help but wonder about the political persuasions of these shining lights and moral exemplars.

Since the only President from Hollywood was a staunch conservative, that’s probably the side they favor.

    Ya think?

  8. MinnesotaRush says:

Good gawd! Have these people NO shame!

  9. BillK says:

The others are no surprise, but I’m disappointed in Scorsese.

  10. artboyusa says:

Me too, Bill. I thought he was better than that. Worth mentioning that the French and Polish governments are going mental over this, this insult to an “artist” whose life has “bubbled with creativity”. No surprise with the French but you’d have thought the Poles would be ashamed of this nasty little rat.

Interesting too, to recall that during the war the French deported thousands of foreign refugees and French citizens, including artists and writers like Max Jacob, Otto Freundlich and Irene Nemirovsky, to suffer and die in Auschwitz and never even blinked. They couldn’t get them in the cattle cars fast enough. Now they’re ready to break a lance over the fate of this guy who, let’s not forget, fed a child champagne laced with Quaaludes, anally raped her and then ran away because he was afraid the same thing would be done to him in prison that he’d done to her. A pervert and a coward.

  11. 12 Gauge Rage says:

I’ve just gotten off the night shift and am looking at my five year old daughter sleeping peacefully. And the thought that some pervert in his late forties would intentionally drug a little girl and sexually molest her just makes my blood boil. I’ve had my disappointments with Hollywood before, but I somehow believed there would at least be one line of decency they wouldn’t cross, such as condoning the actions of a pedophile. These people have no shame but nonetheless should be shamed for their defense of Mr. Polanski.
