UPDATE:

I TOLD YOU PEOPLE!
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D94REDKG1&show_article=1

Read the article, I was right, and the next of kin sued walmart:

"created an atmosphere of competition and anxiety"

"engaged in specific marketing and advertising techniques to specifically attract a large crowd and create an environment of frenzy and mayhem and was otherwise careless, reckless and negligent."

....the Wal-Mart store about 20 miles east of Manhattan lacked adequate security to handle the crowds.

UGH! I am surprised that when you whip a crowd into a frenzy, more people don't die. What if a band member got all his fans hyped up, and told them to go outside and get free tickets to the next concert? 20 people get trampled. Yell fire in a crowded theatre, 2 people get trampled. Remember Willy Wonka? Had any kids gotten killed rushing stores looking for golden tickets, some heads would roll. . .

Here is the cell phone video of the paramedics working on that guy. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f55_1227894806
(hear observers laughing?)
I still think the store is partly responsible for the chaos. A guy making $8/hr didn't carelessly step on a nail or something while working----he DIED....at Wal*Mart. When you die on the job, there has to be some compensation to the victim's family.

Just like other mobs of idiots rushing into a concert or some other venue, they are responsible for the damage. BUT Wal*Mart hasn't learned anything from past history, and should either: 1. Take responsibility for crowd control or 2. Pay someone else to do it. I feel bad for companies like this, but when someone dies on their property, they are partly liable I think but how can a company be two steps ahead of every worst case scenario performed by people with a 70 I.Q.? I don't know.

It's too bad the mob is too stupid to control themselves. Anyone who has ever lived in or around this "community" knows this is the LEAST of their obnoxious behaviors. . . .

They are also reporting the woman that was trampled did not lose her unborn child.
Thank God for that much.

I heard on the local news this morning that one witness said as it got closer to "opening" time, people started jumping line and massing on the door. As was mentioned earlier, nothing short of the National Guard lined up with guns and dogs would have been able to contain that.

They are saying today they want to find people from the surveillance tapes and make some arrests, but that is going to be difficult. First off, the police should have locked down the store as a crime scene and everybody inside should have been matched against the video tape for their role. Those that matched the first wave trampling the victims should have had the cuffs slapped on them and sent to jail.

Much like how they caught a guy throwing a snowball at Giants stadium during a football game some years ago, the police need to publish the pictures of everybody from the Surveillance tapes in all the local papers. Offer big $$$$ rewards for information. They will get enough arrests from friends turning in friends to collect the loot.

There is an upside to this. Unlike the New Orleans Walmart, apparently most of the stuff was actually paid for when it left the store.

No Chinnubie, that would be reality.

They were heard laughing and carrying on AFTER THE MAN WAS TRAMPLED TO DEATH - animal seems to be quite fitting for what took place there. Uncivilized mob would also apply.

I think Gila has hit the nail on the head! I don't think there'll be a need for the flack jacket because we had this figured out from the start. At least one women had described the crowd as ANIMALS was being honest but I'm sure we won't get that as a headline in the Times: ANIMALS KILL AT WALMART!!!! Then pictures of the scene right before they opened similar to the ones on this site. That wouldn't be racism would it????

Let me get this straight.

Store has sale. Barbarian shoppers trample and kill themselves to save a buck. Store is responsible because they didn't protect the barbarians from themselves.

I think I'm going to get in line at a Walmart, catch a cold, and sue for millions.

Brad,

At every other Wal-Mart in the United States, the gathered crowds walked in sanely and responsibly when the doors were opened and the crowds managed not to kill anyone.

Go figure.
