WP: 100K Attending Bernie Sanders Events ‘Meaningless’

The Washington Post seems to want Hillary even over Bernie. Which maybe isn’t such a surprise. After all, who is really more radical and pro union than Hillary?

From the Washington Post:

100,000 people have attended Bernie Sanders events this month. That doesn’t mean much.

By Philip Bump | August 12, 2015

Some 28,000 people attended Bernie Sanders’s rally in Portland, Ore., on Sunday — both in the venue and watching outside. The Fix’s Chris Cillizza marveled at the turnout. "28,000 people! In August! Of an off year!" Cillizza wrote. "I mean, that is a lot. A LOT." … And then, the next day, Sanders pulled the same number in Los Angeles — meaning that in seven events since July 1, Sanders spoke before 100,000 people.

So what does this mean? I hate to say it — and I hate to rain on Sanders’ well-attended parade — but: It doesn’t mean a whole lot… Part of this… is a conscious decision. Sanders, coming from the back of the pack, has to show that he’s a legit candidate. He needs to be chuffed up. He needs to look big.

Clinton has been trying to do the opposite. Her campaign launch was a Sunday e-mail followed by a road trip to Iowa. She’s doing her best not to look like a behemoth…

Now we understand. Hillary is doing her level best to keep her crowds down. (Oh, our sides.)

Could Clinton fill an arena in Los Angeles if she wanted to? Of course she could. Unquestionably. If you think Hillary Clinton can’t do basic body mobilization when she needs to, you haven’t been paying attention to American politics for the past few decades. There are unions in Los Angeles that can fill a stadium on a week’s notice. This is not as big a task as it looks…

What an hilarious, albeit inadvertent, admission. (BTW,according to the Daily Caller, the author of this piece, Phillip Bump’s "career as a journalist began when he headed a vicious pro-labor blog which published the names and addresses of opponents later targeted by unions.") In any case, we would bet Bernie’s crowds have not been bussed in, whereas even Hillary’s small crowds have been.

She’s still beating Sanders nationally by a wide margin, and in every state primary poll, including Vermont-neighboring New Hampshire.

From the Boston Herald:

Poll: Bernie Sanders surges ahead of Hillary Clinton in N.H., 44-37

By Joe Battenfeld | August 11, 2015

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has rocketed past longtime front-runner Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, a stunning turn in a race once considered a lock for the former secretary of state, a new Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll shows.

Sanders leads Clinton 44-37 percent among likely Democratic primary voters, the first time the heavily favored Clinton has trailed in the 2016 primary campaign, according to the poll of 442 Granite-Staters… The live interview phone poll was conducted Aug. 7-10 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.7 percentage points…

Just 35 percent of likely primary voters say they are “excited” about Clinton’s campaign, according to the poll. And 51 percent of voters say that while they could support her, they aren’t enthusiastic about her White House bid… Sanders’ rise has been meteoric.

The socialist senator trailed Clinton by a 44-8 margin in a Franklin Pierce/Herald poll in March. More than half of New Hampshire’s likely Democratic primary voters say they view Sanders “very” favorably, an indication of the excitement the Vermont senator has generated among his mostly liberal supporters…

Being bested by a young and black and hip Barack Obama was bad enough for Hillary. But just imagine the ‘Bern’ of being less popular than an old white man.

My Gawd, if it comes down to trying to decide between Comrade Bernie, former first Socialist mayor of a sort of major city, Burlington, VT and the Hildabeast this country is going to hell. For those of you who don’t know, Bernie solved the homeless problem in Burligton when he was mayor by rounding them all up and shipping them to a little town on the border called Richford. Did wonders for Richford’s property values and crime rate.
