WP: John Kerry To Defense, Susan Rice To State

From the Washington Post:

Obama considering John Kerry for job of defense secretary

By Karen DeYoung and Greg Miller | November 12, 2012

President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus.

Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations…

In a saner world an article announcing the military-hating John Kerry becoming the next Secretary Of Defense and the hapless Susan Rice becoming the next Secretary of State would only be found in the Onion.

But, lest we forget, Kerry in charge of the closed-door Senate hearings on Benghazi which are to start later this week. So Obama wants to dangle this carrot in front of him to make sure those hearings go nowhere. (Not that Kerry needed any additional motivation.)

And, of course, Ms. Rice is being rewarded for pushing the lie that the Benghazi attacks were due to a video, until after Obama was safely re-elected.

Rice, one of an inner circle of aides who have been with Obama since his first presidential campaign in 2007, is under particular fire over the Benghazi incident, in which U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed.

Some Republican lawmakers have suggested that she was part of what they suspect was an initial election-related attempt to portray the attack as a peaceful demonstration that turned violent, rather than what the administration now acknowledges was an organized terrorist assault.

Gosh those Republicans are a cynical bunch.

Rice’s description, days after the attack, of a protest gone wrong indicated that she either intentionally misled the country or was incompetent, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday. Rice, he said, “would have an incredibly difficult time” winning Senate confirmation as secretary of state.

But several White House officials said Obama is prepared to dig in his heels over her nomination to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has long said she will serve only one term…

They know they can count on her to do anything for them. Even lie about the death of four Americans.

[A]dministration officials, one of whom described Kerry as a “war hero,” said his qualifications for the defense job included not only his naval service in Vietnam but also his knowledge of the budget and experience in the diplomacy that has increasingly become a part of the defense portfolio…

But how many "war heroes" admit to having illegally negotiated with the enemy (the Viet Cong)? How many war heroes call their fellow soldiers murders, who are the ruthless equivalents of Jenjis Khan? — How many "diplomats" say that our soldiers are only in Iraq because they are too stupid to have gotten out of going?

And, lest we forget, John Kerry believed there were WMD in Iraq. Kerry wanted us wanted to cut and run from Iraq. Kerry has supported the Iranians’ right to nuclear weapons. (In fact, Kerry believes that ‘climate change’ is more dangerous than a nuclear Iran.) And, of course, Kerry was the major champion for the disastrous START treaty with the Russians.

Still, in Obama’s view, who would be better to have the head the Pentagon with the Gen. Petraeus and possibly Gen. Allen gone? After all, with his "budget experience," John Kerry is the perfect man to carry out the complete gutting of our military.

  1. Hmmm. Obama appoints rich old tax cheating white guy to defense department. Oh, no worries. He’s an America hating democrat.

John Kerry is too rich. His $2.5 billion net worth dwarfs Romney’s $250 million. How will Kerry ever be able to relate to anybody? Then again, this fact never bothered the democrats when Kerry ran for president. Maybe it’s because he didn’t earn it like Romney did, Kerry married it. He didn’t build that.

Fairly recent on Kerry’s fellow supportive vet being stripped of Silver Star for fraud. It was not related to his recent charge of child pornography.

    What’s worse than a hippie?

    A bloody rich hippie.

    *sigh*

Hated them in the 60’s, the 70’s, the 80’s and throughout the following decades as well. They just keep popping back up.

Kerry is the quintessential “look at me” hippie. He found his marketing niche by making a big show of unloading his medals in prima-donna fashion so the photogs could catch it.

Once the hippies start dying off in greater volume, maybe the US can get back to a better place. Every time they show up, they crap everywhere. I think it’s a basic indicator of their upbringing and lack of character going all the way back to their teens where instead of looking to their parents for examples on how to live their lives, they instead turned to drugs, fellow hippies, some of whom were older and reinforced their “rebellious” nature, etc.

Others of that generation survived and disposed of the whole sublime journey.

It’s very odd though that when an idiot like Kerry speaks and looks down his nose at us “unenlightened” pogues, he considers himself better. I therefore don’t pay any attention to him or anyone like him. It will be a pleasant four years because I intend to ignore them all.

    John F. Kerry

He served two tours but was in Vietnam all of four months; three Purple Hearts, but only lost maybe two days of service from one of them. Also got a a Bronze Star and a Silver Star.

Has made his military service the cornerstone of his political career.

Spokesperson for the Vietnam Veterans Against the War and testified before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs

First wife asked for a divorce suffering from depression, second wife is the formerly Republican Teresa Heinz widow of an heir of the H.J, Heinz company.

Like many Democrats supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq but now says he’s against.

Yep, just the sort of stand up guy we want running Defense. Like most of the political old guard he should retire and move on, but doesn’t want to give up all that power.
