Yippee! Food Stamp Rolls At New Record

From a joyous Reuters:

Food-stamp tally nears 40 million, sets record

May 7, 2010

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Nearly 40 million Americans received food stamps — the latest in an ever-higher string of record enrollment that dates from December 2008 and the U.S. recession, according to a government update.

Food stamps are the primary federal anti-hunger program, helping poor people buy food. Enrollment is highest during times of economic distress. The jobless rate was 9.9 percent, the government said on Friday.

The Agriculture Department said 39.68 million people, or 1 in 8 Americans, were enrolled for food stamps during February, an increase of 260,000 from January. USDA updated its figures on Wednesday.

"This is the highest share of the U.S. population on SNAP/food stamps," said the anti-hunger group Food Research and Action Center, using the new name for food stamps, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). "Research suggests that one in three eligible people are not receiving … benefits."

Enrollment has set a record each month since reaching 31.78 million in December 2008. USDA estimates enrollment will average 40.5 million people this fiscal year, which ends Sept 30, at a cost of up to $59 billion. For fiscal 2011, average enrollment is forecast for 43.3 million people.

Happy days are here again!

Just think how much happier they will be when they locate all 60.45 million eligible people.

    Chicken in every pot.

    Obamy times.

    Proceeding as hoped.

I seriously doubt that all of those people were Americans … they may be in America, but I bet half aren’t Americans. Meaning American-born or here legally. At least that’s what I see standing in line at the grocery store… Same with WIC vouchers. I was tickled to be in line behind a young white mother a week or so back; she was the first I’d seen in YEARS.

But are these food stamp recipients also paying their cable TV bills on time?

Cell phones, etc. I bet they are, or they have freebies. I’ve written about kids on free breakfast & lunch showing up to school with Blackberries and other cell phones capable of taking and sending photos.
I do not have a landline phone right now because I cannot afford it. I need Internet access for work. Prioritize.

CG9, I also witness the luxuries kids on free lunch have. (ipods, designer sneakers & clothes, etc.) Most of them skip the free meals provided, at least in high school, and the left-over food is thrown away.

This week, at work, our office manager called a parent to inform her of a change in time to her daughter’s therapy appointment to Wednesdays (occupational therapy provided FREE through the county she lives in, provided in Spanish). The mother screamed at her in Spanish ” I can’t do that! I’m very busy. I have to go get my food stamps that day”. True story.

I think I saw it on Rus Limbo’s site (maxine water’s pronunciation), the female journalist on CNN saying with a big smile on her face, “People sure like tightening their belts! People are cutting back, paying off their debts and have more family time by turning off the t.v. to save electricity!”

…..Something like that, they were hailing the failed economy, and the spin was the American people were LOVIN’ IT!

It’s not news, it’s all MARKETING. It’s part of the media’s shadow & flame puppet show from Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.

I like this story for one reason. This is the first one that notes that Bush had nothing to do with this little statistic. The date they cite as the start of the food stamp wave? December 08. Fully on Obama’s watch. Now these clowns might think this is is good news, but I doubt the country is fooled. Of course the MSM won’t start tossing blame around, but the point has been made.
