Yippee! Panetta Opens Combat Roles To Women

From an overjoyed Associated Press:

AP sources: Panetta opens combat roles to women

By LOLITA C. BALDOR | January 23, 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military’s ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war.

So while the Republicans get blamed for waging ‘a War On Women, it’s the Democrats who are putting them in the front line. And they are being cheered for it by the news media and the rest of the Democrat Party.

The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule prohibiting women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units…

And yet the move will not overturn the laws of physics, which tell you that most women cannot carry a wounded comrade on their backs.

A senior military official says the services will develop plans for allowing women to seek the combat positions. Some jobs may open as soon as this year. Assessments for others, such as special operations forces, including Navy SEALS and the Army’s Delta Force, may take longer

They are going to put women in the SEALs and Delta Force, as well? What could possibly go wrong?

In recent years the necessities of war propelled women into jobs as medics, military police and intelligence officers that were sometimes attached — but not formally assigned — to units on the front lines…

Lest we forget, some of us have warned for years that we were headed down the slippery slope of putting women in combat. And we were mocked. But here it is happening in real life.

Meanwhile, the Politico is celebrating how easy this ‘victory’ was:

No culture war over women in combat

By REID J. EPSTEIN | January 23, 2013

The Pentagon’s decision to allow women to serve in combat didn’t find many takers for a culture war fight.

Instead, much like the response to President Barack Obama’s ending of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and endorsement of gay marriage, the only voiced complaints came from a few scattered corners. Most of the president’s political opponents — even old culture warriors themselves — either endorsed the decision or carefully avoided saying anything publicly against it.

“The whole situation has changed, the whole role of women has changed in our society,” said Eleanor Smeal, the president of Feminist Majority and a former president of the National Organization for Women. “I think it’s marvelous that there is no controversy around it.” …

Other Democrats called the decision a landmark for women’s rights.

Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), an Army veteran who lost both of her legs in the Iraq war, called the Pentagon’s decision “long overdue.” …

Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), a member of the Senate Armed Service Committee, called the move “a proud day for our country.” …

And Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) called the move “a great step toward equality.” …

And yet, you just know that the news media and the rest of the Democrat Party will be among the first to wring their hands when the inevitable happens and we have more and more women killed and maimed.

But, of course, that is all part of their plan.

There’s no problem with this policy until they start lowering the physical standards for women. If a woman is interested in being a front line soldier and can pass the same physical and mental tests, let her go. But if the PC government follows up with, “There aren’t enough women in your front line unit, so we’re going to lower the standards for them to qualify until women are accurately represented in the numbers.” it will boil down to putting both the women and their male counterparts in more danger just for the sake of political correctness. With democrats in charge, it should only take about a week before they start questioning the “fairness” of the tests. That’s how we ended up with a generation of absolute morons coming out of our liberal controlled school system. At least Obama will get high numbers among the fema-nazis, and that’s what really matters. What difference does the safety of our troops make anyway?

  4. Petronius says:

As a result of this decision, all military women will now come under pressure to transfer into combat assignments, regardless of whether they want to, and regardless of whether they’re cut out for it.

The pressures on female officers will be particularly strong.

It will be one of the career development cans they’re expected to kick over, like the parachutist badge.

Meanwhile the mullahs in Tehran build their nuclear bombs.

The Egyptians arm themselves to the teeth with the best American weapons.

    The US Navy goes green.

And the planet races toward Armageddon.
