University Drops Sexist, Rape-Inducing Term: ‘Freshman’

From the College Fix:

University drops term ‘freshman,’ replaces it with ‘first-year’

By Diana Stancy | November 19, 2014

ELON, N.C. – Elon University has dropped the term “freshman” from its vocabulary and replaced it with “first-year,” a move made official this fall and implemented in everything from its website to orientation workshops.

The change at the small, private liberal arts college in North Carolina was done to promote inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and ensure the campus did not promote sexist stereotypes or create a hostile and unsafe environment for female students, campus officials said in interviews with The College Fix.

Leigh-Anne Royster, director of Elon’s “Inclusive Community Wellbeing,” said in an email to The College Fix that she has been told by some that they believe the term “freshman” is outdated, and that replacing “freshman” with “first year” is a “celebration of diversity.”

Royster stated the word “freshman” naturally insinuates a hierarchy among students on campus.

Oakland Sets Up ‘Healing Centers’ For Ferguson Verdict

From the CBS San Francisco affiliate, KPIX:

Oakland To Offer ‘Healing Centers’ As Police, Shop Owners Prepare For Ferguson Verdict

By Christin Ayers | November 18, 2014

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Business owners in Oakland prepped their storefronts in anticipation of protests over an expected grand jury decision on the police shooting of an unarmed man in Ferguson Missouri. Meanwhile, the city says it will open “healing centers” for those who remain troubled by the incident.

Dion Bullock’s downtown Oakland shoe store Groupie suffered damage in a protest over the Trayvon Martin case, and fears what might happen after the grand jury’s decision on Ferguson. “As a business owner, we’re kind of nervous because we don’t know what to expect,” Bullock said.

Mayor Jean Quan seemed to warn Oaklanders to expect the worst, calling on business owners in an open letter to save recordings of criminal activity, cover exterior doors with a steel plate, and leave the cash drawer empty.

GOP Forming Plan To Defund Obama Executive Amnesty

From Breitbart:

GOP Strategy to Stop Obama’s Executive Amnesty Emerging

By Matthew Boyle | November 18, 2014

A clearer picture of the strategy Republicans in both the House and the Senate will use to stop President Barack Obama’s planned executive amnesty in government funding bills is beginning to emerge.

The key point is that no matter what package emerges, there seems to be a consensus emerging among Republicans on Capitol Hill: There will be no funding for Obama’s planned executive amnesty…

First, there could be a short-term Continuing Resolution passed that funds all of government from Dec. 11—when current funding measures end—until shortly after the newly-elect Senate GOP majority takes office in early 2015. At that point, the Senate and House Republicans would block Obama’s planned immigration executive order in some fashion—either in a bill that funds all of the rest of government except for that or by splitting various Appropriations bills into different packages that separates funding the Department of Homeland Security out from the rest of government…

[A] House GOP aide close to the negotiations told Breitbart News… “The approach would separate the agencies involved in executive amnesty from the rest of the government funding, perhaps through a short-term CR combined with an omnibus, or a ‘cromnibus’ as it’s been coined in recent days.” …

One of the best parts of this strategy for Republicans is that they can have their cake and eat it too—have the government funding fight, and have no risk of a government shutdown at all…

[W]ith full control of both chambers of Congress, the GOP can push through appropriations bills or a partial Continuing Resolution that funds everything except for the Department of Homeland Security—separating that out for another fight.

NYT Sobs: Obama Amnesty Will Not Give Illegals Benefits

From a ‘moving on’ New York Times:

Obama’s Executive Order on Immigration Unlikely to Include Health Benefits

By MICHAEL D. SHEAR and ROBERT PEAR | November 19, 2014

WASHINGTON — … [N]one of the five million immigrants.. who will be given new legal protections [under Obama’s plan] will get government subsidies for health care under the Affordable Care Act…

The White House decision to deny health benefits… underscores how far the president’s expected actions will fall short of providing the kind of full membership in American society that activists have spent decades fighting for. The immigrants covered by Mr. Obama’s actions are also unlikely to receive public benefits like food stamps, Medicaid coverage or other need-based federal programs offered to citizens and some legal residents…

The outrage.

AP Complains: Obama’s Amnesty Does Not Go Far Enough

From the ‘it’s time to move on’ Associated Press:

Obama’s immigration actions do have limits

By JIM KUHNHENN and ERICA WERNER | November 20, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — As broadly as President Barack Obama may push the limits of his authority to shield from deportation millions of immigrants illegally in the United States, the fate of millions more will still be left unresolved…

This means that the AP sees Obama’s amnesty as such a fait accompli they can move on to the next step. Which is to give amnesty to everybody. Which, of course, Obama will do soon enough.

His measures could make as many as 5 million people eligible for work permits, with the broadest action likely aimed at extending deportation protections to parents of U.S.

Obama Did Not Ask US Networks To Air Amnesty Speech

From Deadline Hollywood:

Obama Immigration Speech: CBS, Fox, NBC & ABC Not Airing

By Dominic Patten | November 19, 2014

President Barack Obama will finally make public tomorrow night his plan to overhaul immigration. However, while his primetime speech will postpone part of Univision’s 15th annual Latin Grammys, it will not be covered by the Big 4.

The administration said today that Obama will be speaking live from the White House at 8 PM ET on Thursday. But ABC has the fall finale for Grey’s Anatomy on at that time, while CBS has ratings powerhouse The Big Bang Theory, NBC has reality show The Biggest Loser and Fox has Bones. As of right now, none plans changes to their regularly scheduled Thursday night November sweep schedules for the approximately 15-minute speech…

The broadcast networks were not asked for time by the administration, sources tell me…

One network will absolutely be showing the speech live, I’ve learned.

The 22 Times Obama Argued Against Executive Amnesty

From Breitbart:

Boehner’s Office Lists 22 Times Obama Argued Against Executive Amnesty

by Caroline May | November 19, 2014

… Read the 22 times the Speaker’s Office found Obama saying he could not take the actions many expect him to take as early as this week:

1. “I take the Constitution very seriously. The biggest problems that we’re facing right now have to do with [the president] trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all. And that’s what I intend to reverse when I’m President of the United States of America.” (3/31/08)

2. “We’ve got a government designed by the Founders so that there’d be checks and balances. You don’t want a president who’s too powerful or a Congress that’s too powerful or a court that’s too powerful.

Obama’s Unilateral Amnesty Is Unprecedented & Illegal

First we have this via the Media Research Center:

CBS and NBC Parrot WH Argument on Previous Presidential Immigration Policies as Grounds for Amnesty

By Curtis Houck | November 19, 2014

On Wednesday night, CBS and NBC promoted the White House talking point that previous presidential actions on immigration gives President Barack Obama the proper legal authority to enact executive amnesty the evening before a primetime address to the nation on the topic. At no point during the coverage on either network did their reporters mention that this justification is being used despite the President’s previous assertions that he did not have the proper legal means to carry out any sort of mass-reaching executive order on illegal immigration…

The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley began its coverage with a report from CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett who noted this White House argument before moving on to the expected specifics of the executive order: "[T]he White House says it has the law and history on its side, that Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan and Bush 41 all used executive actions to protect various immigrant groups."

Over on NBC Nightly News, a story from NBC News senior White House correspondent Chris Jansing blindly pushed much the same narrative: Both sides are gearing up for a legal fight.

Was Obama Facebook Promo A Thank You to Zuckerberg?

From Mediaite:

Fox Reporter Asks Earnest: Obama’s Facebook Announcement a ‘Thank You’ to Zuckerberg?

By Andrew Desiderio | November 19, 2014

As White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was announcing President Barack Obama‘s address to the nation on Thursday night… Fox News White House Correspondent Wendell Goler [asked him] if posting the announcement on Facebook was a “thank you” to Mark Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg had been funding an immigration advocacy group advocacy group for technology workers, and the White House posted an announcement video on Facebook featuring President Obama promoting his primetime address to the nation… Earnest said it wasn’t, and instead characterized it as an opportunity to reach millions of people and an “effective way."

Needless to say the perpetually smug Mr. Earnest was telling a white lie and this was meant as a thank you to Facebook for allowing Obama’s Organizing For Action to use Facebook to astro-turf for amnesty and Obama-Care.

WH: Obama Wears His Lawlessness As ‘A Badge Of Honor’

First this bit of back story, via the Weekly Standard:

Sessions: Obama Now ‘Emperor of the United States’

By DANIEL HALPER | November 19, 2014

Senator Jeff Sessions calls Barack Obama an "Emperor of the United States" now that the president is going ahead with executive amnesty.

"President Obama previously said he could not issue an executive amnesty because ‘I’m the President of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed.’ Well, apparently we now have an ‘Emperor of the United States,’" Sessions writes in a statement…

In other words, Mr. Session was pointing out that Obama himself said anyone doing what he is about to do would be an emperor not President.

US Will Pay For The Next Flood Of Illegal Aliens Children

From a press release from the US State Department:

In-Country Refugee/Parole Program for Minors in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras With Parents Lawfully Present in the United States

November 14, 2014

Fact Sheet — Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE and U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY

The United States is establishing an in-country refugee/parole program in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras to provide a safe, legal, and orderly alternative to the dangerous journey that some children are currently undertaking to the United States.

This program will allow certain parents who are lawfully present in the United States to request access to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for their children still in one of these three countries.

In other words, any person "lawfully present" in the US is going to be able to have the US taxpayer pay to have their children flown up to them.

Obama To Announce Amnesty Diktat Thursday Or Friday

From CNBC:

Obama to announce immigration order in Las Vegas on Friday

By John Harwood | November 19, 2014

President Barack Obama plans to announce an executive order in Las Vegas on Friday to address immigration reform, CNBC has confirmed.

How fitting. According to the Pew Research Center, Nevada has the highest percentage of illegal aliens. Besides, Harry Reid is facing re-election in 2016. And he will need all the ballot stuffing he can get.

Another source familiar with the situation told CNBC that Obama could yet give a broader outline on an immigration order on Thursday and add detail on Friday.

Obama isn’t even a good dictator. Dictators don’t spread out their pronouncements.

The president has been long expected to make an announcement that would protect up to five million unauthorized immigrants from the threat of deportation and provide work permits.

GOP Blocks Bill That Would Have Killed Data Collection

From the Agence France Presse:

US Senate blocks government surveillance reform bill

By Michael Mathes | November 18, 2014

Washington (AFP) – US Senate Republicans blocked a sweeping overhaul of a National Security Agency program that would have ended the government’s controversial bulk collection of data about Americans. The vote marks a blow for President Barack Obama, who had supported the reforms, and sets up a showdown in 2015 when crucial surveillance provisions are set to expire…

The measure earned a majority, 58-42, with four Republicans joining all but one Democrat in favor. But it fell short of the 60-vote threshold to overcome blocking tactics. It would have reined in the NSA, whose clandestine program has been scooping up vast amounts of electronic data on innocent US citizens as it pursues information on terror…

Data that is meaningless.

AP Inadvertently Admits Amnestos Will Get Obama-Care

From the Associated Press:

Immigrants baffled by HealthCare.gov lapse

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR | November 19, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — Like other HealthCare.gov customers, immigrants are relieved that the government’s health insurance website is working fairly well this year. They’re baffled, though, by what looks like an obvious lapse: There is no clear way to upload a copy of their green card, the government identification document that shows they are legal U.S. residents and therefore entitled to benefits under President Barack Obama’s health care law.

"It doesn’t list the green card as an option to upload," said Elizabeth Colvin of Foundation Communities, an Austin, Texas, group that serves low-income people, including many immigrants. There’s a way to upload copies of other types of documentation, Colvin said, but not green cards.

Politico: Republicans Mull Their Own ‘Immigration’ Plan

From the Politico:

GOP mulls its own immigration plan

By Jake Sherman and Anna Palmer | November 18, 2014

House and Senate Republican leaders have been privately discussing the potential of introducing targeted immigration reform bills in the coming months, according to multiple sources in both chambers. The discussions, which were secret until now, are aimed at trying to separate the immigration debate from the government-funding discussion.

Gee, why have these discussions been kept secret from the American public?

Specifically, Republicans are mulling passing a border security bill and legislation to change visa policy for high-skilled workers‚ two topics that have widespread support in the party… This strategy would not preclude Republicans from attempting to target Obama’s immigration actions through funding mechanisms and other legislation.
